About eight years ago, to help fire up my creativity, I started The Envelope Project. I drew small drawings on business size envelopes and posted them online. I asked that if a person wanted one, all they had to do was give me their mailing address and I would mail them a random envelope with my business card and stickers that I had made.
At the time I was still recovering from heart surgery. It was a way for me to flex my creative brain. The drawings were simple, for the most part, and I gave 100 of them away. After that I had to stop. The response was overwhelming!
A few weeks ago, I started The Postcard Project. Again, random drawings but on watercolor paper postcards. The drawings are pen and ink with watercolor, for the most part. This time, however, the goal is slightly different. I am using ko-fi.com to raise money with the postcards. Basically, the unit of trade is a "coffee" which is $3. Someone described ko-fi.com as a "tip jar for artists and creators," which is a fair assessment.
The goal? Well, a couple years ago I bought a antique tabletop letterpress. Mechanically it's in wonderful shape and was worth the price. However there are minor parts missing and the rubber rollers (essential) need replacing. My goal is to raise $500. With this amount, I can have the press up and running. Once the press is restored, I will be able to increase my productivity in regard to linocut prints and hand-printed greeting cards.
You can help me reach this goal. There are several ways you can support my art habit! Please check out my ko-fi.com site.
1. Moral Support - Can't buy my a coffee? Just follow me on ko-fi.com. You will get random and sporadic updates on new work and my progress in reaching my goal.
2. Financial Support - Buy me "Coffee". Buy me one coffee ($3!), I send you a small "artist trading card" with original artwork via USPS. Two coffees will get you an original art postcard. I post new work on Instagram and Facebook all the time! When and if you buy me coffee(s) let me know if there is a card you prefer. If it's still available, it's yours. Three or more coffees? More artwork!
